Alexandria Cannon
RESIDENT Professional Counselor AND
RESIDENT LICENSED MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPIST
Available for Individual Therapy (adolescents & adults), Couples Therapy, and Family Therapy
I'm Alexandria, a Resident in Counseling working toward both my Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) credentials. I earned my bachelor's degree from Hampton University and my master's degree from William & Mary, where I developed a strong foundation in supporting individuals, couples, and families through life's challenges.
I believe that meaningful change begins with connection, and I am passionate about helping people build healthier, more fulfilling relationships. Whether you're finding it difficult to communicate, feeling disconnected from yourself or those around you, or noticing that you're not showing up in your relationships the way you'd like, I strive to create a space where you feel safe, supported, and understood.
My approach is person-centered, trauma-informed, and multicultural, honoring the unique experiences and identities that shape each person's story. One of the beliefs that guides my work is "You gotta live to learn and learn to live," and I see therapy as an opportunity to embrace both.
My work is rooted in helping people better understand themselves and the patterns that influence their relationships. When working with couples, I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method to explore attachment needs, strengthen communication, and foster deeper emotional connection.
With families, I draw from Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) and Structural Family Therapy to uncover the dynamics that may be maintaining conflict or disconnection. Together, we'll identify these patterns, develop new ways of relating, and create meaningful, lasting change.
I especially enjoy working with individuals, couples, and families from diverse backgrounds and strive to provide an affirming environment where every client feels respected, valued, and empowered throughout their therapeutic journey.
Above all, my goal is to promote connection and understanding; whether that means reconnecting with yourself, strengthening your relationships, or finding a greater sense of balance within your environment. I welcome individuals ages 10 and older for individual therapy and accept children younger when working with the family system.
I believe therapy is a collaborative process, and I consider it a privilege to walk alongside my clients as they gain insight, build resilience, and create meaningful, lasting change. Wherever you are in your journey, I look forward to helping you take the next step toward a life that feels more connected, authentic, and fulfilling.
