Melissa Cavanaugh, LPC RPT

Licensed professional Counselor

Available for individual therapy with adolescents and adults

As Brené Brown reminds us, vulnerability is about fully engaging in life—not avoiding struggle, but recognizing the necessity of both victories and setbacks. I bring this philosophy into every session, supporting clients as they navigate challenges such as depression, anxiety, family conflict, and substance use. My clinical experience includes a strong background in addiction, and I am deeply committed to helping clients build resilience and recovery pathways that honor their unique journey.

I take an eclectic and collaborative approach to counseling, tailoring therapy to meet the needs of every client. For children as young as four, I incorporate play therapy to help them express emotions in their own language. For adults, my style is rooted in compassion, authenticity, and genuine partnership—walking with each client through challenges and successes.

Beyond my clinical work, I am the author of two books that reflect my passion for personal growth and healing. As a military spouse, I continue to learn and grow alongside the communities I serve, bringing an added layer of empathy and adaptability to my practice.

I am licensed in California, Louisiana, Maine, Virginia, Washington, and Washington, D.C.

With each client relationship, I strive to create a trusting, collaborative environment where growth and change feel possible.

If you are seeking support in creating stability, building resilience, or rediscovering joy, I would be honored to walk with you in that process. Reaching out is often the hardest step, but it’s also the first step toward growth—and you’ve already taken it.
